Tracing its history back to 1737, Stone Mill Inn started its life nearly 300 years ago, when accomplished stone mason Martin Schultz built what would later become an operating grist mill for many years. Always a hub of activity, the property — situated on a 1736 land grant from the Penn family — has served as the site of a distillery and lime kilns, and was even a stop along the Pennsylvania Railroad. In the 1970s and 1980s, the mill took on a new life as a restaurant and live music venue before embarking on its most romantic venture yet in the mid-90s: a timeless wedding venue.
Throughout its history, the stone mill has always been a place for gathering; a destination designed for celebrating.
After acquiring the property in 2017, the owners enhanced the aesthetics while preserving key elements of this stunning 18th-century architecture, including the original stonework and wooden beams. As you walk through the estate, you’ll continue to see key parts of our property’s history still present today.

The heart and soul behind Stone Mill Inn’s extraordinary experiences.
Partners in life and love, owners Ken and Karen Painter share a deep-rooted admiration for the estate and a dedication to the art of meaningful moments. Karen hails from Ireland and met Ken, a proud graduate of Penn State’s hospitality program, on the Jersey Shore. After their very first visit to the property, they knew Stone Mill Inn was where they were meant to be — and now, they call this storybook setting home.
Ken’s passion for hospitality, combined with Karen’s love for beautiful details, creates an ideal combination for leading the estate. The couple uses their talents to preserve this piece of history and elevate experiences for the next generation. It’s not uncommon for couples to say they feel like family when they tie the knot at Stone Mill Inn, and as a family-run business, that’s exactly the magic of our venue.
